TWST: Could we begin with a brief historical sketch of Genus and a picture of things as they are now?
Mr. Elder: Genus was formed in 1982, became a public company in the United States in 1988. And in 1998, we restructured the company, where we sold off our Ion Implant Division and refocused the company in our core competence of thin film deposition technology, with the focus on bringing atomic layer deposition (ALD) technology to the marketplace. We have been successful in bringing that technology to the market, and now have systems in the semiconductor industry for 200 and 300mm products, and in the thin film data storage market for thin film heads, which is a second business segment for us. Genus has now shipped its systems into production in both the semiconductor and thin film head industry.

TWST: What is the general outlook for the industries you are involved in?
Mr. Elder: The semiconductor industry has been through a very difficult three-year period and seems to be on the cusp of improving late this year and into 2004. So in the semiconductor industry, 2004 looks like it will be a pretty good year for the semiconductor industry and, in particular, for ALD technology as it is now moving into volume manufacturing. ALD is considered to be one of the fastest growing segments of the semiconductor equipment industry.
