Mr. Van Dell: Legerity was originally formed as a spin-off from Advanced Micro Devices in July 2000 and since then has had a couple of years as a privately held independent company before we acquired the telecom chip business out of Agere Systems in the fall of 2002. The company is focused on analog mixed-signal chipsets, primarily for use in voice and voice over broadband applications, and is the worldwide market share leader in both of our primary market segments.
TWST: Can you give us a sense of the health of your industry at
the present time?
Mr. Van Dell: Our industry is primarily telecom customers, so
that probably tells you a lot right there. Needless to say, a lot
of the excesses of the telecom industry during the 1990s and 2000
led to a prolonged downdraft during 2001 and 2002. We now think
2003 is a gradual return to equilibrium after a couple of
difficult years.
