Mr. Napiltonia: State Software was founded in March 2001. We are a framework for creating real-time Web applications. Today most applications that run on the Web are page-based, and we have a framework that allows them to perform, operate and function like a desktop or a client server with a very lightweight client, so that's transparent to the user.
TWST: Has your product been introduced? Is it commercial?
Mr. Napiltonia: We have two customers, one that has been
announced and another that will be announced in the next 30 days.
The first customer is Amazon and we have announced a worldwide
license with them in September. We anticipate a Q1 launch. The
second customer that we have is AT Kearney, which is a division
of EDS, and they are using it today.
TWST: How does your product work differently from what's in the
market? What are your competitive advantages?
Mr. Napiltonia: Certainly, one of our greatest competitive
advantages in the experience and expertise that we have is
related to real-time technologies. Back in 1985, our tech team
created the first large-scale, real-time, multi-user
collaboration while at Lucasfilm. Over the past 20-25 years we
have been making real-time systems applicable to our products. At
State Software what we have done is address all Web-based
applications to make our market opportunity much larger. So at
the core of what we have is the ability to scale sessions. Part
of why client server for the Web failed was that scaling live
applications was very difficult, not to mention that the other
piece of our full component is that we have a super lightweight
client that is only about 40K. For the user, that's smaller than
most pictures or logos on the page. They don't even realize when
they get it that there is no security dialogue, no ActiveX
controller. They lay it on the page and it just starts working.
For example, the shopping that took place on 10-20 pages takes
place on one page today.
