Mr. Ungerer: Concurrent is a 37 year old company with a rich legacy of providing custom engineered hardware and software solutions for highly deterministic, fault tolerant, mission critical applications. The company has two divisions. Our Real- Time group is a relatively stable, profitable business and proven technology incubator. Our XStreme Division is a market share and technology leader in an emerging market of significant opportunity ' the video on demand (VOD) video server and software markets for VOD over cable and DSL applications. The two main areas of focus in our legacy Real-time business are simulation and data acquisition. On the simulation side we focus on both man-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Examples of man-in-the-loop simulation are flight simulation and ground vehicle simulation. Examples of hardware in the loop applications are automotive, missile control and engine design applications. In essence, our real-time customers are cost effectively creating and simulating environments for the purpose of testing and development. Our blue ribbon customers in those areas are the Lockheed Martins and DaimlerChryslers of the world. In the area of data acquisition, our real-time computers are utilized to perform radar control, telemetry and weather system applications. The Navy's Aegis Class Warship Radar Systems and the Doppler radar systems measure for wind shear at the end of airport runways throughout North America. These are good examples of these applications being used in the field.
TWST: Give us a sense of the competitive landscape and the
advantages that you enjoy within that.
Mr. Ungerer: The competitive differentiator is our highly
respected level of customer service and proven ability to
customize engineer solutions that are highly fault tolerant. This
is very much evident for our legacy Real-time business, in which
some of the partnerships that I have previously mentioned go back
20 plus years and are solid.
